Dear R-MWC Community,

The past six months have been tumultuous ones in the life of our beloved College. We have experienced protests, town meetings, a hurricane of e-mails and two lawsuits. People have spoken from their hearts in the debate surrounding the College’s new direction.

As you know, we did not support the trustees’ decision. But we think it is time to let go. We have come to feel that continued challenges may jeopardize the viability of the College. We now call on the R-MWC community to let those who have firmly decided on this course of action have the chance to proceed with it. The strong faculty, the dedicated staff and the beautiful surroundings are not changing. The college does not have to relinquish cherished attributes and traditions. We can rally around finding ways to bolster the role of, and support for, the women students in this new enterprise.

Let us join to ensure that the College continues to be a place of wisdom, honor and excellence that will inspire and educate future generations.

William F. Quillian, Jr., President 1952-1978
Robert A. Spivey, President 1978-1987
Linda K. Lorimer, President 1987-1993
