: Alumnae Connections
Charge
Our alumnae have never been more important to us. And yet,
inevitably, a significant number are not happy with our recent
decision to admit men. We recognize and respect the disagreement
and, yet, at the end of the day this is still their college,
and we want to make every effort to reach out to our alumnae
and invite them to be part of our future. We need your best
thinking about ways to do that.
Specifically the working group should:
- Examine the experience of other colleges that have become
co-educational in the last ten years, reviewing any data
and literature that may be available. Review the “best
practices” of these colleges in engaging their alumnae
in the transformation and in supporting the College.
- Conduct surveys and focus groups with alumnae.
- Develop an ongoing communication plan(s) specifically
targeted to alumnae. Consideration should be given to generational
differences (for example, recent graduates vs. early graduating
classes) in developing this plan(s).
- Consider any structural changes to the alumnae organization
that could be beneficial at this time.
- Suggest any additional alumnae events that could assist
with the transition. Consider, for example:
- the establishment of an “alumnae college” in
connection with our Global Honors Emphasis
- travel trips that connect to service learning experiences
our students have
- forming a foundation to which students could submit
grant applications for micro-loans in connection with
their service learning
The group should consider framing its recommendations in
phases, recognizing that efforts must be sustained over time.
Give some consideration to strategies that would help the
College’s existing students became active and supportive
alumnae as they hold a unique place in the College’s
history.
