The Ready Virginia mobile app, developed by the Virginia Department of Emergency Management, gives individuals residing within the state a new way to prepare for disasters and also to stay informed during emergencies with the latest information. The Ready Virginia app is available free for iPhone and Android operating systems on mobile devices and may be downloaded at the App Store or Google Play for Android. Some of its features and tools are:
· Location specific weather watches and warnings issued by the National Weather Service
· Disaster news from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management
· Maps with shelter info, evacuation routes, etc.
· Templates for creating customized preparedness plans
· Local emergency contacts
· Links to register for local emergency alerts
