The Adopt-A-Hall program enhances an interactive approach between campus security officers and students designed to promote a greater understanding of each other. The program also serves as an avenue for Safety and Security officers to act as a liaison between the department, the students and residence life staff of the halls. Building relationships in this role fosters an atmosphere of trust; ultimately creating a safer and more informed community. The program allows each residence hall to have one or more officers assigned to spend additional time in their area to get to know the residents and staff who work in the building. Over time, the educational and crime prevention needs of each residence hall are assessed and specific programming is designed and implemented to address these needs.
Program goals include:
· Allow Safety and Security officers to work smarter by addressing key concern areas on campus with student assistance and feedback.
· Create a forum to foster new ideas and perspectives, and explore solutions to mutual concerns.
· Enhance the out of the classroom learning experience by getting the officers more involved in student and community affairs.
· Create stronger relationships with other departments that are involved with residence halls (Residence Life, Dining Services, etc.)
