9/6/2002 4:35:00 PMRandolph-Macon Woman's College invites students, faculty, staff, and the community at large to join us for the following events to mark the first anniversary of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Wednesday, September 11
The Houston Memorial Chapel will be open throughout the day and evening for private meditation and quiet time. Candles will be available in the Chapel and a space will be provided for lighted candles to be placed. The Reverend Cathy Montgomery, Associate Priest at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, will be available in the Meditation Chapel for meditation, prayer, and conversation from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Also, a bulletin board will be placed in the entrance to the Cheatham Dining Hall and will remain there for the rest of the week. Any member of the community who wishes to share a written thought, photo or other remembrance on that board will be welcome to do so.
The Conway Bell will be rung to recognize the time the first plane hit the World Trade Center. Following the ringing of the Conway Bell, we encourage all members of the community to pause for a moment of silence in honor of those who were lost.
There will be an informal Candlelight Remembrance Vigil at the Gazebo on front campus. Come to share some words, some memories, and some prayers for all of those who were lost or experienced the loss of loved ones
Friday, September 13
There will be an interactive panel discussion in the Bell Quad entitled Balancing Individual Liberty and National Security: A Community Discussion on the Meaning of War After September 11th. Four members of the R-MWC faculty will open the discussion with their own reflections and invite comments, questions, and other expressions from the community.
