Randolph College Awards Tenure to Faculty Members

Faculty represent wide array of disciplines

LYNCHBURG – The Randolph College Board of Trustees awarded tenure and promoted 10 faculty members to associate professor during its regular board meeting Feb. 9.

The promotion is effective July 1.

The Board of Trustees is expected to award tenure to an additional faculty member at its next meeting.

“The College is deeply grateful to these faculty members for their talent, their creativity, and their energy,” said Dean of the College, William Coulter. “Outstanding faculty have been a hallmark of the College throughout its history, and it pleases us that we are now able to recognize these members for their achievements, and to look forward to their continuing this tradition.”

The faculty members receiving the promotion include:

Mara Amster, English: Shakespearean scholar, publishes on Early Modern Englishwomen

Bill Bare, Chemistry: teaches environmental chemistry, pursuing research project on lead abatement in contaminated soils

Gail Brown, Education: scholar of the new teacher-mentor relationship

Emily Chua, Music: has given solo recitals, played with orchestras and in festivals, and brought to campus and performed with numerous visiting artists

Jennifer Gauthier, Communications Studies: student of film, especially films expressing national or cultural identity

Mari Ishibashi, Political Science: scholar of conflict resolution, studies treatment of Korean minority in Japan

Julio Rodriguez, American Culture/Sociology: studies popular culture, gender roles, film and media

Kathy Schaefer, Biology: cell biologist, studies development of cardiac tissue

Holly Tatum, Psychology: scholar of personality, health psychology, gender roles

Karin Warren, Environmental Studies: at work on introductory Environmental Studies textbook
