LYNCHBURG – Lianna Carrera, a senior, is one of just 16 people nationwide selected to study at the Comedy Studies program of Columbia College Chicago next semester.
The program, unlike any of its kind, was created when The Second City, the nation’s center of comedy and satire, and Columbia College Chicago joined forces to create an opportunity for select students to study full-time.
“The program has been called the Juilliard of Comedy,” said Carrera, who is also senior class president. “I’ll be working and learning everyday at The Second City. This is so mind blowing.”
The Comedy Studies program is developed and taught by the experts in comedy at The Second City Training Center in Chicago, with college credit provided by Columbia College Chicago. It’s a semester abroad right in the heart of Chicago’s world-famous theater scene.
The students will also attend shows at a variety of improvisation and comedy venues, network with theater artists, explore Chicago’s unparalleled theater and arts world, and present their work in a showcase.
