LYNCHBURGAlpha Kappa Delta and the Randolph-Macon Woman’s College Sociology Department will host a free viewing of “The Caregiver: Disturbing Images of Your Future” on March 28 at 6 p.m. in the Darden Conference Room at the College.

The program will consist of the 30-minute documentary followed by a panel discussion, which will include Royal Jones, a caregiver and activist, Elizabeth Sumpter, an adult day care supervisor, Brad Bullock, a R-MWC professor and sociologist, Dr. Leland Cox, a political science professor and gerentology advisor. A question-and-answer session with the audience will follow.

The documentary examines the enormous challenges faced by caregivers and details one woman’s struggle to survive while caring for her elderly, ill and declining father.

This provocative, powerful and poignant film engages all the common misconceptions about the role of caregivers in society.

This film contains graphic depictions of medical procedures, adult language, and imagery some viewers may find offensive. It is intended for adult audiences.

“The Caregiver” made its world premiere at the New York International Independent Film Festival in November of 2005.

Local news organizations have covered the documentary in the past. The film is also part of the DVD collection at the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts.

Although the program is open to the public, the event will be of particular interest to caregivers, their families, human and social service employees, as well as medical care workers and legislators.

There will be light refreshments immediately following.

Please RSVP by March 28 to Lennis Harris at 434-665-0689 or email to
