In the wake of the devastation brought to the Gulf Coast by Hurricane Katrina, the Randolph-Macon Woman's College community is responding.
Admission for Displaced Students
The College is offering guaranteed admission, free room & board and half-price tuition to any female student enrolled at an accredited four-year institution affected by the disaster (read more in Lynchburg News & Advance, Richmond Times). As of September 9, one student is already in classes and a second one is on the way. Those wishing to donate clothing, money and other goods for students who may be enrolling at the College should contact Pegeen Griessmayer, pgriessmayer@rmwc.edu.
The outpouring of assistance from the RMWC community has been predictably generous, as we have collected hundreds of dollars of financial support from faculty, staff and students for those who are enrolling as a result of the hurricane. In addition...
The R-MWC Alumnae Association has made a cash contribution.
Seeking News from the Disaster Areas
The Alumnae Office has set up a message board for alumnae, students, family and friends to "check in" with news from the Gulf Coast. Those who wish let everyone know their situation or are seeking information on others are strongly encouraged to post their messages.
Housing for R-MWC Evacuees
Anyone who wishes to open their home to those from the R-MWC Community displaced by the disaster, please contact the Alumnae Office, alumnae@rmwc.edu, or 888-RMWC-ALU (888-769-2258).
Campus Drive for Donations
The switchboard in Main Hall will collect cash donations to for hurricane relief efforts to be administered through the Salvation Army. On Wednesday, Sept. 7, student volunteers will visit campus offices and residence hall rooms collecting donations. All students, faculty and staff are encouraged to donate a minimum of $5. Make checks payable to the Salvation Army. We hope to raise at least $5,000. Contact Pegeen Griessmayer for more information, pgriessmayer@rmwc.edu.
