Randolph College President Bradley W. Bateman announced Wednesday the appointment of Wesley R. Fugate as vice president and chief of staff. Fugate, who currently serves as executive assistant to the president and secretary of the Board of Trustees, first came to Randolph in 2011.

The new position more accurately describes Fugate’s duties since a promotion in July that expanded his role. In his new position Fugate oversees the Office of College Relations, which includes community relations, public relations, media relations, publications, website and electronic communications, and special events. He continues to oversee the Office of the President, serving as a strategic advisor to the president and secretary of the Board of Trustees.

“Wes Fugate is a remarkable asset to Randolph College,” Bateman said. “He readily assumed new responsibilities last summer without giving up any of his duties on campus or in the Lynchburg community. His advice and hard work have helped make my transition into the College go smoothly.”

Fugate earned his B.A. in dramatic arts and economics from Centre College, a M.Ed. in higher education administration with an emphasis in institutional advancement from the Peabody College at Vanderbilt University, and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Higher Education at the University of Georgia.

Prior to Randolph, Fugate served as director of program advancement and assistant to the dean for the Kentucky Governor’s Scholars Program, deputy chief of staff for planning and education policy for the Office of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, and advisor to the Interfraternity Council for the University of Georgia.

Fugate is involved in several local organizations, including service as a board member for the Lynchburg Beacon of Hope and legislative affairs committee chair for the Lynchburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. He is the chief learning officer of the Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity and a member-at-large for the Jenny Wiley Theatre Board of Trustees.
