LYNCHBURG– Randolph College is currently accepting registration for its free Science Day March 23.

The popular event, which is open to children in third through sixth grade, features an afternoon of exciting and fun science-related activities. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required.

Science Day runs from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be held in Randolph’s Recreation and Dance Center (RAD), located on Norfolk Avenue.

Preregistration is required. The event runs from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be held in Randolph’s Recreation and Dance Center (RAD), located on Norfolk Avenue.

Randolph’s Science Day is now in its 9th year and attracts students from all over the region. The event features an afternoon of guided, hands-on activities designed to spark an interest in science. Created by Randolph science and education professors, the program’s activities reinforce Virginia’s Standards of Learning.

During previous years, activities have included everything from a bottle rocket competition to earthquake shake tables, to music and sound stations.

“The purpose is to educate and excite children about science, and the response is amazing,” said Peter Sheldon, a Randolph physics professor and organizer of the event. “The teachers and parents involved tell us that when children go home, they talk about the things they learned for days. It is not uncommon for us to have children who return each year.”

All students will receive a t-shirt, snack, and certificate of completion.

Science Day is a part of Randolph’s Science Festival, a weekend of events for people of all ages.
