LYNCHBURG—Randolph College professors are ranked 13th in the nation according to research released by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity. The College is the only Virginia school in the top 15 and shares the honor with institutions such as Oklahoma Wesleyan University and the U.S. Military Academy.

The ranking was published on CBS Moneywatch February 20.

“Many people assume that what are considered the country’s most elite colleges and universities must employ the best teachers. The latest list of institutions with the best professors, which was compiled by the Center for College Affordability and Productivity, demonstrates that this just isn’t so,” wrote Lynn O’Shaughnessy for the publication.

The Center generated the list by looking at the composite teaching scores schools across the nation received via RateMyProfessors. The website captured more than 15 million student ratings of college professors from across the country.

“I am not at all surprised that Randolph College students have recognized our faculty as among the very best in the nation,” said Carl Girelli, vice president for academic affairs and dean of the College. “I have seen them in action. Our faculty members have a real look-them-in-the-eye way of interacting with students. They are accessible to students, absolutely, but also extremely expert in their fields and eager to collaborate with students on their research and creative pursuits. Randolph College faculty members have high expectations, and our students take pride in rising to them.”

The professor rating is just one of the components used by the Center when compiling its annual best colleges list for Forbes.
