Three performances scheduled

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Three performances of the Randolph-Macon Woman's College's Annual Spring Dance Concert will be offered Thursday, April 10 through Saturday, April 12 at 8:00PM in the Smith Hall Theatre of the Smith Memorial Building. A reception will follow the April 10th performance in the Alice Ashley Jack Room. Admission is $7 general, $4 students, and free for children under 12.
Students from the College's dance department will showcase the work of a variety of choreographers, most of whom are professional or former professional ballet, jazz, or modern dancers. In addition, student choreography of senior dance majors Surayyah Colbert and E. Rebekah Helms will also be included. Other works to be performed include The Detail of Phoebe Strickland, a reconstruction of a work created by Alison Chase and members of Pilobolus Dance Theatre in 1979; The Waltz, by former prima ballerina and Julliard School faculty member Genia Melikova; Heir of Civility, Peter Pucci's comic duet; About Dinner, a tribute to housewives of the 1950s, Martha Stewart and Martha Graham; Diane Gray's I'll Fly Away; and I Am the Gate, by R-MWC alum and former soloist with the Martha Graham Dance Company, Helen McGehee. The concert will also feature works by Billy Siegenfeld, director of the Chicago-based Jump Rhythm Jazz Project.
