LYNCHBURG – Randolph College’s Chorale and first coed Touch of Harmony group will present the much-anticipated holiday performances in December.

Chorale, a performing ensemble, will present the annual Vespers program Dec. 7 at 7:30 p.m. in Houston Memorial Chapel.

The candlelight performance will feature traditional choral music carols and selected scriptural readings by the Randolph Community.

“This year, we have chosen a program of more traditional readings and generally reflective music,” said Randall Speer, associate professor of music and director of Chorale. “In a time when we are more pressured to ‘buy, buy, buy,’ and when many of us have less means to do so, it seems fitting to provide, in this service, a refuge from materialism and turbulent times.” The performance holds particular significance to Speer.

“Something about hearing, in an inspiring setting like Houston Memorial Chapel, such beautiful music and thought-provoking scripture and other readings related to Christmas – the service truly and spiritually prepares me for the season,” he said.

Randolph’s Touch of Harmony group will also provide a holiday performance on Dec. 11 at 8 p.m. in Wimberly Recital Hall in Presser Hall.

The evening of vocal jazz and holiday favorites will be performed by Randolph’s first coed ensemble

Both programs are free and open to the public.
