On January 21, 2010, Karin Warren, associate professor of environmental studies, Rick Barnes, professor of psychology and environmental studies, and students Megan Roberts '10, Katelin Shugart-Schmidt '10, and Danielle Simms '10 led a three-hour break-out session at the National Council for Science and the Environment's (NCSE) 10th National Conference on Science, Policy, and the Environment: The New Green Economy.
NCSE's signature national conference engaged leading thinkers and doers from a diversity of disciplines, sectors, and perspectives in a structured conversation about the meaning of the green economy and how investment in green education, research and jobs can help solve both the economic and environmental crises.
The Break-out session focused on devising strategies for promoting sustainable urban planning and development, and engaged over forty participants from academia, public policy, government, and non-profit organizations in a productive conversation that resulted in cohesive recommendations.
